The church and cloister of St-André-le-bas
Both of these buildings were part of a rich and powerful abbey, which was founded in the sixth century. Chapel of the palace of King Boson, at the end of the ninth century, the church was reorganized between the eleventh and twelfth centuries.
Its semi-circular apse surrounded by powerful antique columns and capitals are just a few of its exceptional features of which the most remarkable is its unique nave with Romanesque-style sculpted ornamentation (capitals, columns, friezes...).
The cloister (twelfth century) is also richly decorated with columns and sculpted capitals: floral elements, animals, biblical scenes, also influenced by antique art. The walls are adorned with an exceptional collection of engraved funerary stones. Three halls are dedicated to temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
