Bird park in Villard les Dombes
Situated in Villars les Dombes, 30 minutes from Lyon, the quality of this bird park is rare.
Numerous birds can easily be observed throughout the trail among the ponds. Huge aviaries shelter the more exotic birds.
Prepare yourself for an amazing trip high in color and sounds. From the pelican lake to the Pantanal aviary which recreates the ecosystem of a marshy region in south-east Brazil where you can observe aras, stilts, ibis and pink spoonbills.
The nestling house shows the complete process from the egg to the young bird capable of leaving the nest.
3 picnic areas
Access for handicapped persons
Pushchairs on loan at the entrance to the park
In 2010, a 4-acre site will welcome one of the most important collections of Calaos in European animal parks. 5 species of Asian Calaos (Papua Calao, Rhinoceros Calao, Two-horned Calao, Red-masked Calao and Coal Calao) and 6 species of African Calaos (Abyssinian Calao, Trumpet Calao, Silver-cheeked Calao, Black-beaked Calao, Lead beater Calao and Van der Decken Calao). These birds live in an environment which recreates the Asian bamboo groves and the African Savanna.
A new trip is proposed this year. After travelling through South America, Australia, Europe and Asia you will discover the wild expanses of the African Savanna. For the first time, the Bird Park will present African birds in a new biotope dedicated to Africa.
