For over 150 years, every month of August, the Jeanne Sappey Festival is held in the village streets. This festival is organized by the villagers and festival committee. The festivities include: a torch-lit procession for the opening, a huge procession of floral floats on the Sunday afternoon and again the following Tuesday evening, a "singles" fair and various games (goose chase, boules competition...). The numerous amusements and fairground games draw huge crowds (over 10 000 visitors).
According to tradition, "Jeanne Sappey" is the name of an old maid who, in 1802, bequeathed all her possessions to the boys of Viriville so that they could organize a festival every year...
