The Berlioz Festival Berlioz is an incontrovertible summer event which takes place in the Isère and throughout the Région Rhône-Alpes regions. Its national reputation has made it one of the most important events of the season of classical music festivals. It is also one of the rare symphonic musical festivals in France.
It attracts some 18 000 spectators, over a 12-week period, to the Côte-Saint-André, native town of Hector Berlioz, a great romantic genius.
The main venue of the symphonic concerts, the courtyard of the Château Louis XI, is equipped, during the festival, with a structure which is unique in France and which protects the public and musicians during bad weather. It combines the acoustic quality of a concert hall with the advantages of open air venues.
The most renowned national and international symphonic orchestras have enjoyed performing the major works of the romantic repertoire.
The Berlioz Festival also includes other recitals or chamber music concerts in the region and neighboring communities.
For two weeks, the Côte-Saint-André takes on the colors of the Berlioz Festival Berlioz and enjoys the concerts which take place in the streets, the market square, the Hector Berlioz museum, the cinema, etc.
