Familiar to motorists driving to Lans-en-Vercors from Grenoble, their narrowness is impressive as is their entrenchment among the cliffs which, in some places, exceed 150 m in height. The site is interesting from a naturalist point of view for its exceptional natural environment, due to the rocky scarps which make access difficult. They are home to the Tichodromia muraria (wall-creeper), the peregrine falcon, the eagle owl and bats.
